Our dearest Hazel J. Best passed away on May 4 2011. Hazel was in her 91st year, she is survived by her sister Reby Jerome. She will be reunited with her sister Lillian Palmer and brother Nelson Best. Hazel will be greeted at the gates of heaven by her father Beecher Thomas Best and mother Ruth Alice Ramsay. Hazel will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Hazel was never married and had no children. Her life was full from the time she left Prince Edward Island in 1937 at the age of 16 and headed to Boston where she stayed until 1948. She then moved to Seattle until 1954. Hazel moved to San Francisco and this is where she called home and stayed in the same apartment from October 1954 until May 2011. Hazel was a very independent woman that loved to travel and had seen most of the world. To family and friends she was an inspiration. She enjoyed the company of many people and spent some of her time at several Senior Centers. She was a member of the Canadian Woman’s Club, The Breakfast Club and each day headed to the Greco Café to meet with some of her dear friends. It was a wonderful life! A memorial service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church on May 24 at 1:30 p.m. located at 2515 Fillmore St. S.F.(415-346-3832). Contributions can be given in honour of Hazel to a charity of your choice or Coming Home Hospice (415-861-1110) or one of the Senior Centers that she attended at Calvary Presbyterian Church (415-346-3832), or Grace Cathedral (415-749-6300), or St. Francis Lutheran (415-621-2635). Cremation has taken place as per her wishes. Hazel will be laid to rest at Freeland Presbyterian church P.E.I. later this summer.
