Mrs. Isabella “Bella” Akins of Moose Jaw passed away August 17, 2009. Bella was born in Tugaske in 1918 to John and Elizabeth Brough, the youngest of 4 girls. She married Robert Akins on December 23, 1942 and they resided at Hearne until 1983 when they retired to Moose Jaw. Bella joined the Eastern Star in November 1968 and was Worthy Matron of the Drinkwater OES #59 in 1975 and 1985. In Moose Jaw they took up bowling, golfing, travelling, along with their many lodge activities. Mom was a prolific knitter. She made many sweaters, touques, mitts, “Hearne socks”, and finger puppets. She is predeceased by her husband Bob, and her sisters, May Patterson and Elizabeth Brough. Bella is survived by her children: Barry (Ethel) – Outlook, Dennis (Judy) – Saskatoon, Keith (Eleanor) – Hearne, Donna (Jack) Fines – Biggar, and Joyce (Dent) Fines – Moose Jaw; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister Peggy McCutcheon, and in-laws, Iris Watson, Marg Ferrara, Cec (Peg) Akins, Alice Melton, Mabel Akins, Melva Aikens, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday August 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. Memorialization will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Avonlea. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, the CNIB, or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
