Allan Louis Knoke passed away surrounded by family members on August 1, 2009 in Trochu, AB at the age of 87. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret (Line) and his children, Linda Lukovszki - Regina, Marion (Murray Shadlock) - Three Hills, AB, Michael - Calgary, AB and Kathy (Brian Witdouck) - Iron Springs, AB. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Pam Thompson, Kelsey and Ashley Thompson, - Regina, Robyn (Dallas Shenner), Malia and Mason Shenner - Regina, Katie (Sheldon Walker), Cody Walker - Milo, AB, Nancy Shadlock - Vancouver, BC and Geni and Kevin Witdouck. Allan is predeceased by his son Murray who died in 1954 at the age of five, and his parents John Martin Henry (H.J.) and Eugenie (Jennie) Knoke, his siblings Jeannette Ireland, Orla Davies, Doris Sanderson Lang and Harold. Allan was born on December 24, 1921. He was raised on his family’s farm north of Mazenod, Saskatchewan. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was assigned as a tail gunner on the Lancaster bomber. He logged over 280 hours from February to April, 1945, proudly serving his country. Allan married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Line on February 2, 1946. They resided on the farm in Mazenod until their retirement to Mossbank, Saskatchewan in 1982. Allan was a hard worker and enjoyed farming. Visitors often commented on his farm and yard; he was particular about keeping the weeds at bay and the garden hoed. He took pride in his farm equipment and could always find a way to fix anything. Allan enjoyed civic service. He served with the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Lodge, and the Elks club. He was a municipal councilor with the R.M. of Sutton. He also gave of his time to the Mazenod CO-OP, the Mazenod and Mossbank United Church Boards, the Mossbank School Board, Hospital Board, Library Board and the Mazenod Wheat Pool. Over the years Allan enjoyed traveling. He was fortunate to see many parts of Canada and the United States as well as Jamaica, and Mexico. He was an avid curler throughout his life and during his retirement took up the game of golf. Sadly he lost his eye sight in later years and had to give up many of these pursuits. But Allan never lost his sense of humor and was always ready with a joke or a story. His family will remember them fondly. In 2006, Allan & Margaret moved to Three Hills, Alberta to be closer to family and a year later Allan moved to St. Mary’s Long Term Care unit in Trochu, Alberta where he resided until his passing. His family is grateful for the excellent care given by the compassionate staff. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 at Sunset Cemetery in Moose Jaw followed by a Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel.
