KAMPHUIS, Johannes (John) H.L.- 76, Truro Heights, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 5, 2018 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. He was born in Oldenzaal, the Netherlands on January 31, 1942. He was the only child of the late Bernardus and Anna (Buts) Kamphuis. He was enlisted in the Royal Netherlands Army for 2 years. After studying textiles, his work took him from Europe to The United States and then to Yarmouth NS, where he met his beautiful bride. They settled in Truro where he was employed with Intertape Polymer for 36 years. John was a talented organist at Immaculate Conception Church for nearly 40 years. He was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed music, watching Formula 1 and NASCAR, and collecting model trains. John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Stella (d’Entremont), his son John (Amanda) of Truro Heights, his grandchildren Robert and Rachel (at home), sister-in-law, Therese (Ralph) of Meteghan, brother-in-law, Gerald of Bible Hill, nephews Luke and Kyle, and cousins in Holland. He will be greatly missed by his family and his dog, Beau. He was also preceded by his in-laws Leger and Ethel (Warner) d’Entremont. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Murray, Dr. Lori Wood, Dr. David Henderson, Lisa Weatherbee, and the VON. There was no visitation as per request. Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, February 10 at 11am in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro, Fr. Cristinel Fartadi officiated. Reception followed in Campbell Hall. Interment will take place in Spring 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Association of Canada. Cremation and arrangements were under the care and direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
