ARDNESS - Mary Margaret Butler, 86, Ardness, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on August 17, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Lismore, she was a daughter of the late John Dan and Margaret (MacDonald) MacDonald.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Allan George Butler, in 1997.
Mary was a life long member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Prior to her retirement, she worked at the former Lismore Seafood factory. Mary’s cherished role in life was being a loving mother to her family. She prided herself on being a great cook and always having lots of food in the house for visitors. Living in the country, she had a special bond with nature; watching the changing seasons, the wildlife around her home and harvesting the bounty from her gardens. She was an avid reader, enjoyed politics, playing cards and kept informed of current events.
Mary is survived by her children: Leo (Tillie), Southampton, Ont.; Irma (Pete) Delaney, Lakevale; Elaine (Gerard) Delaney, Merigomish; Marilyn (Don Jeffery), Greenhill; Donnie, Ardness; Lionel, Ardness; Carl (Roxane), Hammonds Plains; Paul, New Glasgow; sisters, Anne MacDonald, Ottawa; Beverly (Allan) Roberts, Antigonish ; brothers: John Duncan (Marg), Toronto, Ont.; Frances (Catherine), The Ponds; Clary (Joan), Lower Barneys River; Bernie, Lismore; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in P. & K. Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the Lismore Community Hall.
Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Parish.
