New Glasgow - James Andrew Marks, 86, formerly of 36 Pine Street, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, Halifax.
Born in New London, Prince Edward Island, Andrew was a son of the late William and Annie (Folland) Marks. He owned and operated Marks Electric in New Glasgow. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 and Trinity United Church, New Glasgow.
He is survived by his daughter Andrea, Dartmouth; sisters, Roma Cooper, Dartmouth; Harriet Mansour, Pictou and sister-in-law Helen Marks, Pictou. He was predeceased by his wife the former Doris Forbes in 2010; sisters, Eileen, Juanita; brothers, Bobby, Clarence (Toady), and Hilard.
A public committal service will be held for both Doris and Andrew at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in Brookside Cemetery, East River Road, New Glasgow, with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Everyone is invited to a reception in Trinity United Church Hall, Temperance Street, New Glasgow, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow.
