McCARTHY, THOMAS “DOODY” JAMES - The passing of Thomas “Doody” James McCarthy of Fredericton occurred at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital on Saturday, May 14th 2011. He was 70. Born in Fredericton N.B, he is the son of the late Thomas J and Phyllis (Phee) McCarthy. Having graduated from F H S and also from St. Thomas University with a B.A. and B.ED, he was an outstanding athlete in any sport he played. He especially loved hockey, baseball and rugby. A physical education teacher for several years, he also coached many sports teams over that span as well. A member of St. Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Church and “4th Degree Member” of the “Knights of Columbus” Fredericton, along with his two brothers and father, he was very proud of his Irish heritage with his finest qualities being kindness, generosity and honesty. A Good samaritan to everyone, his favourite expression was “have fun”. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family. Survived by two sons; Patrick McCarthy of Durham Bridge NB, Paul McCarthy of Florida USA, a sister Allye-Lou McCarthy of Fredericton, brother Wayne McCarthy (Maxine) of Fredericton, two grandchildren Kayla and Aaron as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother Currie McCarthy.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road where visitation will take place on Monday, May 16th from 7 to 9 PM. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, May 17th at 12:05 PM from St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church with Father Mark Trzop officiating assisted by Father Jack Dolan. Pallbearer’s for the service will be Jeffrey Riley, Blaine English, Mike Currie, Maureen, Mark and Walter McCarthy, honorary pallbearer’s will be Peter McCarthy, Carl Neilson, Catherine Mahoney, Ruth Gratten, Dennis McCarthy, Paddy Delong and Robin Gregory.
