Mary \'Theresa\' Mugridge

Mary Theresa Mugridge of Membertou, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, while surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.
She joins her late husband Leo Mugridge Sr. and his parents, the late Gerald and Anne Marie Mugridge. Theresa was also predeceased by her mother, Matilda Herney, brother, Earl Herney and her sister, Rhodena Christmas.
Theresa was the loving mother of Leo Mugridge Jr. (Michelle Gillis) and Deborah Mugridge, both of Membertou.
Theresa is survived and sadly missed by brother-in-law, Donald Mugridge, Calgary, Alta., and sister-in-law, Helen (Russell) Long, Sydney. Theresa is survived and sadly missed by her father, Charles Herney; sisters, Linda (Lawrence) Wells, Hazel Herney, Sylvia and Bernadean Herney; and by her brothers, Michael, Bruce (Sandra), Clifford Copage, Freddie Googoo, all of Membertou, and Jeffrey Herney (Keitha Adams), Saskatchewan. Theresa was the godmother of Drew Herney and Julian Wells, Membertou and Crystal Wells, Toronto. Theresa was loved and will be sadly missed by her nieces, Chelsea Johnson, Elisia Herney, Rosalind Christmas, Lynn Wells, Dawn Wells, all of Membertou, Crystal Wells, Toronto, Julieanna Herney and Jada Beaudin-Herney, both of Saskatchewan, Dale Mugridge, Sydney, and Donnette (Joe) Bren, Calgary. Theresa was also dearly loved by her nephews, Drew Herney, Julian Wells, Joshua Herney, Russell Christmas, Raymond Christmas, Rodney Christmas, Lawrence Wells, Nathan Doucette, Hunter Doucette and Carter Doucette, all of Membertou, Brandon Herney, Saskatchewan, and Donald Wells, Arizona.
Theresa graduated on the Dean’s lists with her BA from UCCB and her bachelor of social work from Dalhousie University. She earned the Lillian Christmas Memorial Scholarship from overcoming adversity and many challenges as an adult student. Theresa was a volunteer for breast cancer awareness, fundraising and community events. Theresa was also a volunteer for the senior canteen at the bingo that raised funds for the senior’s trip to St. Anne de Beaupre. She also gave her time with native alcohol and drug addiction programs. Theresa was also an avid sports fan.
The family of Theresa Mugridge are grateful for the prayers and comfort of Elders Viola Christmas, Pauline Bernard and Katie MacEwan and for the support and help from Theresa’s dear friend Julie Christmas.
Donations in Theresa’s memory may be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Visitation will be held at 15 Aqmoqew Awti, Membertou, Thursday, Aug. 20 after 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Rev. Gus MacLeod officiating. Interment in St. Margaret’s Parish Cemetery, Grand Mira South. Sa’lite will follow at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.
