Edna Mae Richard age 92 of Amherst passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Gables Lodge in Amherst.
Born September 12, 1916 in McAdam, NB, she was the daughter of the late Orrington and Vergie (Sutherland) Rushton.
Edna graduated from McAdam High School and Calais Hospital School of Nursing, Calais, Me, in 1940. She was employed by River Glade Sanatorium, River Glade, NB, where she met her future husband, Charles. They moved to New Glasgow, NS, where she did private nursing and later to Amherst where they owned and operated C.J. Richard's grocery store from 1945 until 1970. Edna was a member of Holy Family Parish, Amherst.
She will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Pauline (John) Kellegrew of Brookdale; son, Charles "Chuck" (Debbie Ferguson) of Amherst; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Mac) Davis of Brookdale, Brenda (Kirk) Rioux of Brookdale, Brandy, Donnie and Tera Richard (Derick Bowser) of Truro; three great grandchildren; sister, Ollie McGee of McAdam, NB as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Edna was predeceased by her husband, Charles; sisters, Phyllis in infancy, Amy Rushton and Edith Clark and brother, Arthur.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:00 p.m.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery.
Donations in Edna's memory may be made to the Cumberland Victorian Order of Nurses or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
