Doreen Carolyn Ellis age 87, of Stellarton, passed away on March 21, 2018 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Parker’s Cove, NS she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Shipp) Campbell.
Doreen spent her childhood in Parker’s Cove. She married Jack Ellis her teenage sweetheart, in Aug. 1952 in Royal United Church, and they spent many wonderful years together.
Doreen was a graduate of Annapolis Royal Academy, NS Teacher’s College, Truro, and STFX University with her BA and BED Degrees. She later taught school in Clementsville, Parker’s Cove, Crows Mills, Churchville and G.R. Saunders, Stellarton, for a total of 31 years.
She enjoyed travelling by trailer across Canada and the U.S., also trips to England, Hawaii, Spain and Italy. Doreen and Jack spent 17 warm winters at Clerbrook resort in Florida, and many wonderful summers at the cottage in Chance Harbour.
She spent many hours reading, enjoyed country music and spending time with her grandchildren.
Doreen is survived by daughters Donna Pike, Calgary; Sherry and Bob Thistle, Dartmouth; grandchildren Brennan (Hanna) Pike, Carly Cunningham, Evan Cunningham, Ashley Thistle, sister Lillian Gesner, brother Bill and sister-in-law Bonnie, great-grandchildren Zachary, Joey, Austin and Theresa.
She was predeceased by her younger sister Doris (Dale) Caswell, brother-in-law Neil Gesner and son-in-law Byron Pike.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Karen Ross officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memory may be made to Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
