Passed in: Langley, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: March 28th, 2018

Mutch, Frederick Rupert passed away suddenly on March 28 near his home in Langley, BC.
Born to F. Leslie and Hazel (Gates) Mutch on December 12, 1925, Fred grew up on the family farm in Mt. Herbert, Prince Edward Island with his brothers, David and Wilfred.
A telephone pioneer, he began working with the Island Telephone Company in 1944. In 1948 he moved to BC and continued his career with BC Telephone. After a brief stint in New Westminster, a country boy at heart, he jumped at the chance to work in Langley up until his retirement from BC Tel in 1984. During this time, he married Frances (Nelson), lovingly raised two sons and two daughters, and made countless friends in the community.
In his 30+ years of retirement he enjoyed many happy days with his grandchildren, great(+) nieces and nephews, traveling back to his beloved PEI, working on his antique engines, visiting with friends, participating in the Masons, K-40, and other service organizations.
He was predeceased by his parents Leslie and Hazel, his wife Frances, his brothers and sisters in law David (Jean) and Wilfred (Ruth), his nephew Scott Rea, his great nephew, David, and numerous beloved pets.
He leaves to mourn his children, Ian, Laurel (Rick), Wendy, and Tobin (Christine), his grandchildren Alex Newcomb (Brittany), Tyrone Mutch (Anwen),and his step-grandsons, Alex and Tayte (Andrea) Nelson, his nephew, Charlie Mutch (Alma), nieces, Margi Wilson (Bob), Donna Woodley (Brian) and Heather Kelly (Bob), his precious great (and great great) nieces and nephews, his sister in law Marion and niece and nephew David and Sandra Rea, his first cousin Lloyd McDonald, and many other relatives and friends.
He was a gentle giant, well loved and respected, and will be dearly missed. He will live on with those who knew him, with memories of his many stories, colourful expressions, toes tapping to fiddle music, and abundant love.
A service to celebrate Fred's life will be at 2:00 pm on April 13 at Sharon United Church, 21562 Old Yale Road, Langley, BC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the charity of your choice.
