Ernest Emile Meyers

Meyers-Ernest Emmanuel (Ernie) passed away peacefully on August 13, 2009, at the age of 87, at the Veterans Ward at Regina Wascana Rehab Centre with his sons at his side. Ernie is predeceased by his wife Hilda (nee: Karius), six sister, two brothers and granddaughter Heather. Ernie is survived by his sons, Ronald (Ardith) and Wayne (Lynn); grandchildren DeeAnn (Soren), Becky (Mark), Rhett and Nathan, Lorna, Shaun and Erin; great grandchildren Logan, Oliver and Luke, with two more on the way; and very special friend Hilde Haus; sister Emma and brother Vic. Ernie was born on December 30, 1921 on the farm near Gravelbourg, Sk. He was a hard-working, fun-loving, humble man, who lived throughout Saskatchewan and worked at many occupations to support his family. These include ranch-hand (Alberta), soldier who served in the Aleutian Island in World War II, meat plant worker, farm-hand (Mortlach and Gravelbourg), Pool elevator agent (Neidpath), truck driver (including Melville Co-op, Burke and Son, Swift Current Construction, Reliable Trucking and Flint Rig), school caretaker (Swift Current Central School) and finally retired in Regina as a building superintendent at Sunset Towers. Ernie was well known as the "Singing Cowboy" with his guitar on his horse Barney, and a man who could play shuffleboard without a thumb. Ernie's favorite pastime was watching his sons play sports. Ernie spent the last part of his life in the loving care of the staff at the Veterans Ward at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside memorial service at Memory Gardens in Swift Current, on Wednesday Aug 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Brad Julien officiating.
