It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Wayne Bickerton, 68, of King Street, New Waterford, on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of late Elmer and Renovia (Hibbert) Bickerton.
Wayne was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan.
He worked as a coal miner with Devco for 33 years until his retirement.
Wayne was a kind-hearted, generous man who loved tarabish and at one time was an avid dart player. He was also a man of great humour who, at times, was very outspoken. Wayne was an outgoing guy with a fondness for animals, especially his pet dogs, Cody and Simba.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; sons, Billy (Rachelle), Wayne and Shawn, all of Grande Cache, Alta.; brother, Melvin ‘Snooks’ Bickerton, New Waterford; five grandchildren, Raymond, Billy, Teala, Shawn Michael and Cody; numerous nieces and nephews; a godson, Jacob.
Besides his parents Wayne was predeceased by father and mother-in-law, Tommy and Florence ‘Mit’ Bennett.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
A funeral mass to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating.
A luncheon will follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce in New Waterford.
