We, the family are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our brother Danny on May 17, 2011. Danny passed away at his residence in Glace Bay, after a short battle with cancer. He would have celebrated his 65th birthday on Friday, May 20.
Born in Glace Bay, Danny was the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Steele) Dearing, longtime residents of Seaview Street.
In his younger years Danny served with the Canadian Navy, travelling the world aboard the vessel Coutenay. He later worked for a short time in our local coal mines and in other mines and factories throughout Ontario and Western Canada.
He was a longtime member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Club and the Hub Club, both in Glace Bay. Danny will be sadly missed by his extended family at the Hub Club, who were very good to him.
Danny is survived by a son, Rickey, Ontario; sister, Sharon (Art), Glace Bay; brothers, Harold (Mary Jane), Truro, N.S., James (Brenda), Bobby (Anna), both of Glace Bay, Blair (Debbie), Lower Sackville, N.S.; Danny is also survived by several aunts and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, Danny was also predeceased by a brother, Crawford, Ont.
In honouring Danny’s requests, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Cremation has take place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
As an expression of sympathy for Danny, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of ones choice.
