Jean Lockhart
Jean Phyllis Lockhart, daughter of the late Colonel Karl R. and Agnes Mitchell, passed away peacefully May 17, 2011, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Jean was a professional person in her younger years, attending Colchester County Academy Success Business College, and working in Truro and Toronto branches of the Scotiabank, later at Ross Douglas Higgins Insurance Brokers in Toronto from where she retired to become a full time wife and mother.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Lewis C. (Bill) Lockhart, and her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Lovett. She is survived by her children: Lynda Pierce (John), Lewis (Jane), and Lesley; her grandchildren: Craig (Michelle), Kyle, Karen (Martin), Mark (Anne), Robert (Julia) and Laura; and, her great grandchildren: Brianna, Aleigha, Nevada, Alex and Cameron.
Jean was a dedicated member of Trinity St. Stephens United Church, involved in all aspects of the Church community. She volunteered at the food bank and canvassed enthusiastically for several organizations. She was a friend to all and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Over the last few years, Jean bravely battled ill health with the assistance of caring professionals, including Dr. Murray McCrossin and Dr. Timothy Wallace, staff at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Gables Lodge and Northumberland Hall (Shannex). She had many special friends whom she loved to visit with and who have tirelessly supported her family. Thank you to all.
Jean’s remains have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, under the direction of Rodney Long. Her remains will be cremated and her family and friends will gather at an announced later date for a grave side ceremony and a time for celebrating Jean’s full life.
Jean and her family’s preferred charities include Cumberland Regional Health Care Auxiliary and The Lodge that Gives at the NS Cancer Society; however, contributions to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated and may be directed to Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, NS (902-667-9906)
Jean was a special lady with an infectious smile and gentle nature. Her family has been blessed to have her at the helm for so many years. We reluctantly, but graciously, deliver her into the arms of the God she loved so much.
