Owen Johnson
JOHNSON, OWEN GLEN - Owen G. Johnson of Hartin Settlement, NB passed away May 18, 2011 at Upper River Valley Hospital. Born in 1934 at Dow Settlement, NB, he was a son of the late David and Glenna (Lutwick) Johnson. Owen left home at an early age to live in Ontario where he worked at Toronto Hospital, then as a mechanic before going to work for CN Rail. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth N. (Handy) Johnson, affectionately known as his queen, on May 1, 1963. Owen and Elizabeth moved back ‘home’ in 1976 to be closer to his family. He worked in the woods before beginning work at Sabian in Meductic, NB where he worked for 25 years, retiring when he was 70. He thought a lot of the Boys there and was known as O J Johnson. Owen was quite a story teller and loved a good joke. He was an avid reader who was very proud of each of his six children. Owen will leave a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. Owen is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Johnson; his children, Donna Furrow (Lewis), Ricevillle, NB, Lisa McLellan (Richard), Woodstock, NB, Glen Johnson (Lynn), Shearwater, NS, Jeff Johnson (Patricia), Scott Johnson (Karen), both of Canterbury, NB and Jared Johnson, Mushquash, NB; twenty grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Johnson, Elaine Watson, both of Canterbury, NB and Ellen Buckingham, Fredericton, NB; two brothers, Curtis Johnson (Sharon), Skiff Lake, NB and Sheldon Johnson (Sheila), Welsford, NB; a brother-in-law, Aleph Poirier, Ontario; a special niece, Angela Meneley, Canterbury, NB; a special nephew, Allison Buckingham, Richmond Settlement, NB; several other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Owen was predeceased by a sister, Iona Poirier and an infant brother, Andrew.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Marne Baptist Church on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Trevor Savage officiating. Interment in Marne Cemetery.
