It is with broken hearts we the family of Clara (Googoo) Basque announce her passing on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born on May 24, 1953 in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Matilda and Roddie Googoo.
She was a member of Holy Family parish in Eskasoni, making many pilgrimages to Saint Anne de Beau Pre. Clara spent her free time playing bingo and was a member of Elder’s Group Bingo, cards and Yahtzee with her brother, Raymond and sister, Barbara, also with other family members and friends. She volunteered for PowWow Security and many other events in Eskasoni.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony and was loved so much by her daughter, Takisha Starr and husband, Anthony, also by her daughter, Susie Googoo (Reid) and sons, K.J. and Ozzie ‘Jij’; brothers, Roderick, Raymond, Ryan, Mick and Steve; sisters, Laura, Florence, Anita, Doreen, Linda, Barbara, Trudy, Karen, Marion, and best friend, Mary Rose Julian. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kihristopher and Khloe Francis, Danielle, Evan, and Ashton Reid; godchildren, Lala, Ryan ‘JiJ’, Debbie, Raylene and godmother, Bessie Prosper.
She was predeceased by her son, Francis Joseph; brothers, Robert and Kenny Googoo; sisters, Susie Jane, Mary Isabel, Sheila, Annie Bridget and Rose Ann and godfather, Wilfred Joseph Prosper.
Visitation will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the residence of Clara (Googoo) Basque, 92-74 Street, Eskasoni.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21 at Holy Family Church. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery at a later date.
