Roderick G. "Pete" Kay

Roderick G. "Pete" Kay

Roderick G. “Pete” Kay, age 76, of Amherst, and formerly of Parrsboro. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear brother and uncle, Roderick “Pete” Kay on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully passed in the early morning hours. Pete was born in Parrsboro in 1941, a son of the late George and Madeline “Maudie” (Harrigan) Kay. In his early 20’s, Pete moved to Ontario to make his fortune. While no fortune was gained, he did find his jewel, Marie “Snoop”. They married in 1965, later returning to the Atlantic provinces where they lived in both NB and NS. Pete was employed at the Dorchester Correctional Facility for more than 25 years. He had a unique sarcastic whit, something we all loved about him. Even in his last days, he found strength to muster up a sarcastic remark here and there. Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Marie of over 52 years; brother, Merton “Nuke” Kay, Parrsboro; sisters, Mary Anne Gilbert, Pauline Morris, Betty Jeffers (Floyd), all of Parrsboro; numerous treasured nieces and nephews, especially Tim and Brenda Jeffers, and Treena Grace who showed extra care and devotion to both Pete and Marie in his last few weeks. He was predeceased by a brother, William “Bill”; a sister, Rebecca; brother-in-law, Bruce Hunter; sisters-in-law, Joyce and Doreen; nephew, Richard Hunter; nieces, Suzanne Hunter and Janet Hiltz. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the LA Animal Shelter, Amherst. Arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Online condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com
