DEARBORN
Sarah ‘Elizabeth’
(Loving mother and grandmother; Life member of Centre Street
United Church and Centennial Albert United Church) Peacefully, after a short hospital stay, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Palliative Care Unit on the morning of Saturday, June 16, 2018 in her 100th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years and best friend William Edward 'Bill' Dearborn (February 2006). Born on October 20, 1918 in Martock House, Hants County, Nova Scotia, to the late Eliza Jane (Burke) and Edward Butler Sweet. Loving mother of Robert Edward and his wife Karen of Victoria, B.C., Alec Warren and his friend Christine of Courtice, David William and his wife Judy McIvor of Calgary. Proud and loving grammy of Kenneth William Dearborn of Ajax. Mum helped create great memories for her children and grandson and will always be lovingly remembered. Mum will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends. Mum was a war bride marrying and moving to Oshawa in 1946. Mum was a dedicated homemaker and an active volunteer over the years involved with the Home & School Association, UCW, and Meals on Wheels. Mum was an avid reader, enjoying playing scrabble, solving crossword and word search puzzles. Mum’s knitting bag was usually close by often with multiple projects in progress. Mum also treasured the times she could return to her birthplace, the big house on the hill in Nova Scotia to reconnect with family and friends, even more so if that visit included a wedding celebration of one of her nieces or nephews. Following Dad’s retirement, they relocated to Courtice in 1985 spending more than 20 great years in their new home. With retirement came more time and freedom to travel throughout Canada and Eastern United States and a tour in England. In the summer of 2006 after her final Sweet Family Reunion in Nova Scotia, Mum moved to White Cliffe Terrace Retirement Residence in Courtice where she developed many new friendships with residents, staff and management. A special thank you to all who made Mum and her family feel welcome over the years. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Dick (Margaret), Nellie (John DeVenney), Suzie, Ethel (Arthur Saxton), Maggie, John (Ivy), Annie (Norris Hawboldt), William, Alex (Jessie), Edna (Phillip Harvey), Ernest (Muriel) and Pauline (Roy Redden). Predeceased by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses, Clarence Dearborn (Evelyn), Irma (Charlie Bell), Betty (Jack Bonnetta), and Anna Dearborn. Predeceased by Ken’s mother Karen. At Elizabeth's request cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family in a Celebration of Elizabeth's Life, beginning Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME, 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558). Visitation continues on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at CENTENNIAL ALBERT UNITED CHURCH, 19 Rosehill Blvd., Oshawa, from 12:30 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m., officiated by The Rev. Bill Tadeja. Interment of cremated remains at Oshawa Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Centennial Albert United Church or a charity of choice would be appreciated. A special thank you to all of the staff at Oshawa Lakeridge Health, for their care and compassion shown to Elizabeth and her family. Online condolences may be made at makfuneralhome.com
