Mark Warren Gertridge passed away at the age of 80, at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton on July 22, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Mark is survived by his partner Donna Durland of Kingston; stepdaughters Kandace and Kellie (Duncan Haldane); step grandchildren Nick, Justin, Jonathan and Melanie (Gerry Proctor); step great-granddaughter Allison; son Heath and daughter Marlee (Peter Dietert); grandchildren Leela and Gideon; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Warren and Daisy (Foster) Gertridge, and sister Alma Buchanan. Mark grew up in Gaspereau, Nova Scotia, born to Warren and Daisy (Foster) Gertridge. Mark became an accomplished welder at the Halifax shipyards. He eventually became a skilled barber owning and operating the locally famous “Mark's Barber Shop” in Greenwood for several decades. He was also a champion stock car driver. Mark was Chairman of the Greenwood Village Commission for many years, and King Lion of the Kingston Lion's Club. Over the years Mark volunteered his time in a variety of roles in local churches; including numerous performances where people enjoyed his amazing singing and comedic talents. An avid horseman his entire life, Mark competed in and judged horse pulling events both in Canada and the USA. Even after retiring, Mark remained active in his passion of horsemanship. He was married to Leotia White for 36 years and fathered two children. For the past 20 years Mark enjoyed love and life with his dear partner Donna Durland acquiring a wonderful extended family that he also dearly loved. Mark's presence and sense of humour will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Visitation was held 6 pm - 8 pm, Thursday, July 26th in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448 from where the Funeral was held at 6 pm, Friday, July 27th with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. A reception followed the service. Private family interment will be in the Tremont Cemetery.
