ARMSTRONG, LEOTA - Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on May 22, 2011, Mrs. Leota (Noddin) Armstrong of Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews NB, wife of the late Mr. Robert G. Armstrong formerly of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born at Back Bay, NB on February 8, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Vernard and Winnifred (Kavanaugh) Noddin. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by one son, Brendan (Leona) Armstrong of Blacks Harbour, NB, two daughters; Leora (George) Murchison of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB and Mary Ellen Sabean of Sussex, NB, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one sister, Norva Hatt of St. George, NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Gordon Armstrong, and by two brothers; Norval Noddin and Roy Noddin. Prior to her retirement, Leota worked for both Connor’s Bros. as a Packer as well as the Fundy Hospital where she worked as a Cook and as the Switchboard Operator. She was a avid quilter and knitter who will be remembered for knitting stocking and mittens for many of the local area’s children. She recently received reconginiton for her knitting which spanned the last 50 years and up until she reached the age of 95, she was still supplying mittens and stockings to Cottage Craft. Leota will also be remembered by her family and many thankful fisherman for her careful watch over them from her livingroom window in Deadmans Harbour.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held at the Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield NB on Thursday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating followed by the interment at the church cemetery. In Leota’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. (www.stgeorgefh.ca)
