It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Darlene MacDonald, 50, of Glace Bay passed away at her residence on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
Born in New Waterford, Darlene was the daughter of Christine Gillis.
She was a member of St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay. Darlene was a former employee of Stream until her illness. Her greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Darlene will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 29 years, Darryl; daughter, Rhonda (John Vaters); sons, Geoffrey (Erica), Christian, at home; mother, Christine; brother, Ian and best friend, Cheryl Curnew; cherished grandsons, Jesse, Lucas, Mason, Marcus and granddaughter, Camryn. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Darlene was predeceased by her best friend, Mary Lynn Hull.
Visitation for Darlene MacDonald will be held Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Cremation will follow. A luncheon will be held in the church hall, all are welcome.
Darlene was a dialysis patient for seven years at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Darlene’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Renal Dialysis Unit, CBRH or the Diabetes Association.
