Muriel Brown, 79, of Alexandra Street, Sydney, and a former resident of Glace Bay, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Jennie Pearl (MacLeod) Morgan.
Muriel was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Glace Bay. She was once employed at the Glace Bay Fish Plant. Muriel loved playing darts, going out to bingo and bowling. She was an avid CB’er back in the day. Muriel will be remembered as an independent lady with a sharp wit and great sense of humour.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Brown (Randy Aubin), Alberta, Marian (John) Axworthy, Toronto; son, Michael, Glace Bay; brothers, Donald Morgan (Florence), Reserve Mines, Alan Morgan, Glace Bay; two sisters, Edith Morgan, Montreal, Linda Morgan, Toronto; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert Eli Brown in 1979 and two brothers, Darrell and Freddie.
Cremation will take place. A visitation, funeral service and reception will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay at a later date with the time to be announced. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Muriel, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
