MacCallum: Thomas Frank “Tom”, 69, Truro, passed away Tuesday August 25, 2009 at the QE ll VG Site Halifax. Born in Truro on April 17, 1940, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Nita L. (Smith) MacCallum. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Jane (Nelson); daughter, Donna Lynn (Kevin) Murray, Cody, WY; sons, Andrew (Sherri), Truro; Matthew, Moreno Valley, CA; grandchildren, Sam, Luke, Jake and Baillie Murray, Wyoming and Matthew B. MacCallum, Truro. Tom was a member of the Downtown Merchants Association, Truro Kinsmen Club, Truro Barber Shoppers and the Valley United Church where he served on the Board of Stewarts, the Church Session and a member of the church choir. He was also Past Equipment Manager for the Truro Junior A Bearcats. Tom worked in the Men’s Wear Business with his father Frank B. MacCallum at Frank B. MacCallum’s Ltd. Truro for many years. After his father’s passing he took over the business and operated it for another five years before selling out and going into the Service Station Business for five years. He then joined the Chignecto Central School Board in 1988 as Supervisor of Pupil Transportation until his retirement in 2005. Being an only child Tom was very proud of his family and kept abreast of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, including golf, hockey, swimming, dancing and his life long passion of baseball. He also loved listening to his children sing and play music. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. No visitation or flowers by request. Funeral Service will be held 2pm Saturday August 29, in the First United Church, Prince Street Truro with Rev. Brian DeLong officiating. A reception will follow in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Donations in Tom’s memory may be made to Truro and Area Minor Hockey Association or the Palliative Care of Colchester Regional Hospital Truro.
