Wheaton, Mary Adeline (Boulay) — 92, of Windsor, Hants County passed away Monday, May 16 surrounded by family at the Hants Community Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on March 25, 1919 in Bathurst, New Brunswick, she was the eldest daughter of 13 children of the late Arcade and Derilda (Arseneault) Boulay. After leaving home at the age of 18, she worked in Montreal’s Eatons Department Store and then as a nanny before joining the army in 1942 where she met the love of her life, Lawrence Wheaton. With their five children, they moved many times as an Armed Forces family, but always returned to Nova Scotia and Northern New Brunswick for summer vacations. A devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was lovingly known as “Mum-Mum”. Well into her eighties, she delighted in hosting the whole family for many Friday night suppers, kept everyone in hand-knitted socks, slippers and mats, and never missed giving her grandchildren their monthly allowance. Adeline was an avid walker, gardener, as well as a fabulous cook. We will all miss her homemade bread, pies and Christmas baking, especially her traditional pork pies. Despite her illness, she maintained her beautiful smile and sense of humour. Her generosity and concern for her family was on-going until the end. She will be greatly missed by children: Blair (Martha), Larry (Marianne), Lionel (Carolyn), Beverly (Bill) Tetanish, and Janice (Nick Pratt); 15 grandchildren: Ross (Danielle Batstone), Jason (Maria Trujillo), Melanie (Ian Maule), Jennifer, Holly (Glen Leck), Brett (Jessica), Tasha (Tony Adams) and Raissa Tetanish, Trevor (Paula), Meghan, Tristan, Jeremy (Tiana Murphy), Mariah, Jennifer and Laura Pratt; six great grandchildren; brothers: Joe, John, Lionel, Rod, and Raymond; sisters: Yvonne, Anita, Fernande, and Clara. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Lawrence; siblings, Terry, Fred and Fernand. The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care staff (HCH) for their outstanding care and compassion. A special thanks to Bev Lyttle and Dr. Mark Kazimirski. A gathering to celebrate Adeline’s life was held at the Brooklyn Civic Centre Monday, May 23 from 2-4 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be sent to mbwheaton@eastlink.ca; Bev Tetanish, Box 23, Newport, NS, B0N 2A0.
