COBURN: William "Scotty" Allister, age 83 years of Abbey, Saskatchewan passed away August 23, 2009 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. A private family Graveside service was held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2009 at Abbey Community Cemetery with Pastor Sandra Sellars officiating. The eulogist was Bev Coburn.
Scotty is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Georgina (Eckert), his sons Murray (Carolyn) Coburn, James (Iris Hart) Coburn and Dean(Deena) Coburn, his grandchildren Michelle (Ken) Dearing, Melissa (Dennis) Hetlinger, Michael (Paulina) Coburn, Vanessa (Jean) Plamondon, Courtney (Rob Munroe) Coburn, Jonathan Coburn and Nicole Coburn. His great-grandchildren Baily, Branson & Brinn Dearing, Cole, Kade, Reid & Jace Hetlinger, Hayley & Alexandra Plamondon. His sisters Josephine Reynolds, Elizabeth (Clarence) Pederson. Former daughters-in-law Bev Coburn & Sharon Coburn; step-grandchildren Scott Lamb & Shayna Burrell and several brothers & sisters-in-law and nieces & nephews.
Scotty was predeceased by his parents James & Sarah Coburn, his brother-in-law Eric Reynolds and his step brother Hugh Peebles.
Scotty was born at Abbey on January 25, 1926. His early school years were at Venlo School, he finished high school at Abbey School. He went on to take a radio/TV course. He worked in Moose Jaw for a time after high school, later he worked hauling wheat with Tom & Jack Smith, he also worked at Thompson's Garage in Abbey. Scotty married Georgina Eckert on October 18, 1947 and they had 3 sons. Scotty started farming in 1947 and opened W.A. Coburn & Sons in 1972 in Abbey, where Scotty & his sons sold hardware & automotive parts & repairs. It quickly became a gathering spot in town.
Scotty enjoyed curling in the winters in his younger years. He loved playing pool in the Abbey Pool Hall, there were many exciting matches. Scotty & Georgina enjoyed camping & boating as a young family with special friends Richard & Evelyn Cator. They also did lots of travelling over the years, going to New York several times, England & Scotland, Victoria and in recent years spending winters together in Arizona.
Scotty was a real handy man, able to keep anything on the farm running, he loved to spend hours tinkering and fixing anything for anyone. Scotty dearly loved his family and enjoyed time spent with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special love in the last couple of years were their Pugs "Milo & Miley", they quickly became the center of attention. Scotty will be lovingly remembered for his friendly nature, his wonderful sense of humour and his love of family and friends.
