CLARKE
Dorothy Marie (Verge)
May 18, 1927 – Sept 1, 2018
Beloved wife of Eric, cherished mother of David and Nancy, passed away September 1, 2018. Dorothy loved her family. A happy, strong independent woman who loved to be “on the go” with her family and friends. Be that by foot (walks everywhere), car, airplanes or trains! She wasn’t keen on the water. Dorothy was an exquisite and talented knitter. If you were lucky enough to have received one of her “Christmas stockings” please treasure it. Christmas was one of her favorite holidays. Dorothy and Eric moved to Gander in the mid 1950’s. Their home was welcome to all. Dorothy’s gourmet kitchen always had everything fresh from “tea biscuits”, fruit cakes to dinners for many. Dorothy was born in St. John’s, NL. She graduated from Prince of Wales College. She worked at Imperial Tobacco after graduating. The Verge family attended Cochrane Street United Church. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Mary and Harry Verge; brothers David (Doris), Angus (Pat), Bob (Gwen) and Harry; brother-in-law Walter Clarke and Halifax family (chosen) member Pamela Joy Skelhorne AKA “Pam.” Leaving to mourn her very special brother Graham and the Verge family Ethel, Jacqueline, Graham and Diane; daughter-in-law Linda; sisters-in-law Gladys Clarke and Mabel Verge; brothers-in-law Roy and Betty Clarke, Arnold and Joyce Clarke as well as many nieces and nephews. Celebration of life and service will be at Cochrane Street United Church, St. John’s, NL on Saturday, September 8 at 2 pm. Flowers are gratefully accepted. If you have a memory to share with the family, please share with us through Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Halifax, NS (902-423-7295). With very special thanks to Dr. Marilynne Bell, Dr. Kenneth Rockwood, Dr. Valerie Lewis, Nurse Practioner Sandra Duke, Nurse Gabriela Gaspar, Antonette Lucero and Jody Fraser. As well, as the special people at Parkland at the Gardens, The kind people from Home Instead and all our private caregivers.
