WESTVILLE - Michael Robert McDonald , age 92 years, North Main Street, Westville, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Hugh and Elizabeth (Duggan) McDonald.
Mike was a veteran of the WWII. He was a coal miner working in the MacGregor and Thorburn Mines. He was also caretaker of St. Paul United Church until retirement. Mike was a home person enjoying his family and especially his grandchildren who were very dear to him.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Tena (MacPherson); daughters: Andrella Hodder, (Fred), Westville; Roberta MacKean (Billie), Loch Broom; Rebecca, Amherst; son, Michael (Joyce), Westville; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Josephine Piek (Adrian), Westville Road, and Muriel Roper, Wisconsin; and brother, Frank McDonald (Iris), Truro, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers: Harry and Patrick and John "Jack" McDonald, Henry Duggan; and sisters: Kathleen MacPherson, Hannah MacDonald, Marie Ryan and a sister in infancy.
Visitations will be held on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Eagles Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Peter Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in St. Bees’ Cemetery, Westville.
