STELLARTON – Vera (Field) Atkinson, age 90 of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, and formerly of Acadia Ave., Stellarton, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the Manor.
Born in Yorkshire, England, she was a daughter of the late George Bedford and Annie (Mason) Field.
Vera was a resident of Stellarton for most of her life. During her working life she was a former employee of Gennoe’s Bakery and the Fienni Plant. Vera was one of the founding members and was a director of the Stellarite Seniors Group. She was a member of Christ Anglican Church.
Vera was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her children: Wayne (Linda) of Stellarton; Carolyn Duncan of Stellarton; Terry (Marion) of Stellarton; Brian of Collingwood, Ont.; Kevin (Kathie) of Barrie, Ont.; grandchildren: Christopher, Christine, Derrick, Jeffery, Adam, Chad and AJ; special nephew, Doug Ince.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cyril; a son, Leonard; daughter, Karen; grandsons, Trevor and Shawn; brother, Bedford Field; sisters, Lilly Boutilier, Elsie MacDonald.
Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visitation from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, from where funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel at 3 p.m. with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Christ Church Cemetery.
