Ritchie Toole
PICTOU – Richard Roebuck Toole, 90, of Pictou, passed away May 24, 2011 in the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou.
Born in Pictou on May 8, 1921, he was the son of the late Homer and Grace (Roebuck) Toole.
Ritchie was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the RCAF in England, North and South Africa, and Italy. Along with his father he operated Pictou Auto Sales Ltd. for over 33 years, and later was employed by Watters Insurance until retirement. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou, RCAF Association, Rotary Club, Board Member of the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital for over 25 years, and was a former member of the Kinsmen, Pictou Curling and Golf clubs.
Besides his parents and infant brother, he was predeceased by his wife, Mae (Fergus); son, Kevin and daughter, Kathryn.
Ritchie is survived by his daughter-in-law, Ruthie Toole, Pictou; grandchildren: Nikki Toole, Edmonton, Alberta; Lee (Alana) Toole, Pictou; Jennifer Falkenham, Truro; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Cooper Toole, Pictou. He is also survived by son-in-law, Wayne Smith, Halifax; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Marg) Fergus, Trenton; Leonard (Lucille) Fergus, Odessa, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Lexie Watters, Scotsburn; Roberta Galbraith, Pictou.
Many thanks to Dr. Burrill, Dr. Cooper, and the entire staff of the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit who attended Ritchie with such compassion and loving care for the past five years.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Monday from St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
