Fredrick Leward "Fred" Fielding

Fielding, Frederick Leward “Fred” – 90, Onslow Mountain passed away peacefully May 26, 2011 at home. Born in Onslow Mountain, he was the oldest son of the late Ethel (Crowe) and Eugene Fielding. He was a veteran of the Second World War and served overseas with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. At the end of the war he returned home to Truro and to his wife, Helen. He began working with the CNR and then later became a foreman with the N.S.A.C. Poultry Division from where he retired in 1985. Dad so enjoyed their Friday night card games, Saturday night dances and their many trips overseas. Above all, he loved to fish, hunt, snowmobile and “tinker’ in his garage. In these later years, he loved his “Thursday outings” to “Fielding Day” at the food court! Dad always, always had a smile on his face and was a good friend to all who knew him. Fred leaves behind his only child, Susan Fielding Mowatt (Harry Mowatt), Greenfield; sisters, Reta Rice, Julia Blackmore, Sheila (Kelly) Callaghan, Marilyn (James) Waller, Barbara Atkinson, Hazel Delaney; brother, Jack; aunt, Celia Lynds. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Helen E.; brothers, Gerald (in infancy), Sherman and Russel. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 30th from 1:00 pm until time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Interment in Terrace Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or the Colchester Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. I would like to express my sincere thank you to all of the caring staff at Parkland Estates – Edinburgh Hall for keeping that big smile on his face each and every day. Dad so loved all of you.
