Dorothy Elizabeth (Campbell) McNeil

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Elizabeth McNeil (nee Campbell), on November 28, 2018, surrounded by loving family.
Dorothy epitomized kindness, grace and gentleness. Born in Low Point, Cape Breton to Russell and Susan Campbell, she had the opportunity to travel extensively and live abroad as a new wife and mother before settling in Ottawa to raise her children and then returning to her roots in Nova Scotia. Throughout her life her passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs and her enduring belief that this “would be their year” never faltered. She got to enjoy her retirement years with her dear husband sailing in the Thousand Islands and wintering in Florida.
Our mother was a person who never wanted to “be a bother” but the generosity and kindness she always showed others was returned to her in all the love and support she received from her large extended family in her final years.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Michael (Mikey) McNeil and was a loving, nurturing mother to her five children, Michael (Tatiana), David, Alison (pre-deceased), Wayne (Janet Campbell) and Cathy (Mike Brady).
She is survived, and will be missed, by her siblings, Theresa White (Bob), Rita White (Joe), Fraser (Lynn), Hilary (Carmel), Michael (Marilyn), Evelyn (Alex), Bernadette (John) and Bernard (Ann).
She is pre-deceased by her siblings, Donald (Bernice), Agnes MacKinnon (Bill), Blaise (Theresa), Russell (Jeanette), Aloysius (Jean), Alice and Susan.
Being a grandmother and great-grandmother brought her much joy and happiness. She was very proud of her 12 grandchildren and truly wanted them all to excel in life, Keith (Nicole), Megan, Peter (Vanessa), Alison, Rory (Emma), Christopher, Duncan, Kate, Serena, Max, Yuri and Aiden.
She was a special great-grandmother to Brae-Lynn, Rayah and Emmett.
Dorothy is also survived by many nieces and nephews who played such an important role in her life, making sure she was well cared for and surrounded by family.
She died peacefully knowing she was loved dearly by everyone whose lives she had touched with her gentle spirit. She will be missed.

Arrangements entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, with visitation Friday November 30th 4 to 7 and Funeral Mass Saturday December 1st at 10 a.m., St. Peter’s Church Dartmouth.
