Neil Carty

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Robie Carty, 86, of Amherst.
Born on January 30, 1925 in Amherst Head, he was a son of the late Robie Mason and Jessie Aurlee (Mills) Carty.
Neil was a veteran of the Second World War, where he saw active duty in France, Germany and Holland. Following the war Neil was employed with the trucking industry until his retirement.
He had a great passion for his ponies, which he enjoyed showing at local exhibitions and fairs throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Neil was a fabulous cook, using his skills for many family and friends gatherings over the years.
He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew him.
Neil leaves behind to mourn his loving wife the former, Carol MacKay; sons, Norman (Shona), and Eric, both of Myrnam, AB; daughters, Nancy Lawrence, Two Hills, AB and Betty Anne (Norman) Brake, Barrie, ON; step-daughter, Susan Collins, Amherst; step-son, Tony (Marion) Stiles, Victoria, BC; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie (Bert) Nelson, Amherst, and Ivy Greeno, Orillia, ON; brother, Oscar (Marjorie), Woodville, NS; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Neil was predeceased by his first wife the former, Thelma Chapman; son, Kevin in infancy; sisters, Daphne Embree and Marguerite MacDonald; and step-sister, Audrey Pajor; brother, Kenneth in infancy.
His remains are resting in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visitation on Monday, May 30, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. as well as on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in Campbell’s Chapel with Rev. Raymond Fancy officiating. A time of sharing and refreshments will follow in the funeral home.
Memorial donations in Neil’s memory may be made to the Amherst Wesleyan Church or charity of your choice.
