Maisie Brych
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."
Mom carried these words with her through life on a praying hands medallion she wore. After a three-year fight with Cancer, she left us Saturday to join her husband Egbert. Maisie was born into the Coish family on Indian Islands, and moved to Fogo in her teenage years to become a nursing assistant at the Cottage Hospital. In 1959, she moved to Gander to work at the old Banting Hospital. She left nursing in her early years but it prepared her for many years of caring for Egbert and her grandchildren. The Brych family sends a special thank you to Dr. St. Croix and the nursing staff of the James Paton Memorial Hospital, who became a part of Maisie’s extended family. Some of Maisie’s happiest times were: weekends at the cabin on Indian Arm Pond; visits with family in Ottawa, California, and Germany; picking berries; cooking and baking for any occasion; and shopping for her grandchildren - but most of all, helping to care for them. Left to remember these happy memories are children: Dominic (Jennifer), Felicia (George), Christian (Sheila) and Deborah (Roy); grandchildren: Emily, Andrew, Samuel, Victoria, and Catherine; siblings: Wilbert, Lloyd, Alvin, Alec, Bernice and Geraldine; and her long time friends Glenys and Gunter Dlugosch (there is no way for us to thank you enough for your support during recent years). Maisie is predeceased by her parents Andrew and Hilda Mae, brother Herbert and grandson Douglas. Funeral Services were held on Monday at St. Joseph’s Parish. Donations in Maisie's memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic, Gander. Arrangements entrusted through Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander.
