Phillip Perry Gwynn

Phillip Perry Gwynn

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip Percy Gwynn, of Fourchu, on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Cape North August 15, 1933, he was the eldest of 12 children born to Dan and Beatrice (Dixon) Gwynn.
Phillip worked in construction his whole life operating heavy equipment or driving a truck. He was a hard worker who took pride in his work and was especially proud of the fact that he helped construct the Bicentennial Highway. After his retirement as supervisor at Doug Burns Construction, he had more time to spend at his other passion, mackerel jigging. It was a very common sight for the residents of Fourchu to see him going in and out the harbor in the Bonnie III. He also enjoyed his time spent working with Robert in Cape North.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Burns); his five children, Nancy (Dale Hardy), Gabarus, Blair (Cathy), Darryl (Raylene), both of Fourchu, Kirk (Karrie), Debbie (Greg), both of Sydney; 11 grandchildren, Phillip (Natasha), Robert (Ardith), Darren (Stephanie), Brittany (Kevin), Kaliegh, Samantha (Andre), Devin (Katrina), Kelsey (Brad), Shelby (Lance), Brianna and Makayla; 13 great-grandchildren, Brad, Madison, Cole, Emma, Ava, Ariel, Layla, Olivia, Dominic, Brayden, Alexis, Madelyn and Hailey. Also survived by brother, Melvin (Kathy); sisters-in-law, Martha and Catherine; brother-in-law, Alastair Sobey; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Phillip was predeceased by brothers Robert, Jimmy, Clemmie, Charlie, Dee and John; sisters, Mary, Effie, Livvie and Abby.
Special thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt and Janice Black for their excellent care of Dad over the years, staff of Palliative Care and all our family and friends for their kindness always shown to Dad, especially over the past two weeks.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Fourchu United Church, with Nancy Whitney-Latham, DLM officiating. Lunch to follow in Fourchu Hall.
Memorials may be made to Fourchu United Church.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca.
"And while he lies in peaceful sleep, his memory we shall always keep"
