Sophie Piercey

We regret to announce the passing of Sophie Piercey, age 93, on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Born June 17, 1925, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Mekieta and Catherine (North) Lukow. Sophie was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, Whitney Pier. Beloved mother of sons, Frederick (Elizabeth Pyke) and Michael (Louise Brisson). She will be dearly missed by her granddaughter, Patricia (Kenneth) Kingston. Sophie is also survived by her son-in-law, George William Kelly and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Frederick and daughter, Joan Kelly. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Sophie was predeceased by her sisters, Maria, Annie, Barbara, Josie, Dolly and Jennie and brothers, Bill, Michael and Nicholas (in infancy). Being of very strong faith, Sophie was always trying to help others even in her later years, as she gave spiritual support to her family, friends and care givers. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Kadagoda, Dr. Archibald and the caregivers and nurses at the Cove Guest Home for their tremendous loving care, especially in Mom's final days. A very special thank you to Dr. Ritter for his tender care with pain management. Funeral service will be held at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, Whitney Pier on Wednesday, January 23 at 11 a.m., with Father Roman Dusanowskyj officiating. A lunch will be served after the service in the Ukrainian Hall. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
