ROSE - Herbert George of the Swift Current Care Center and formerly of Pennant, SK, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26 at the age of 87 years. George is survived by daughters Ardene (Guy) Murphy of Maple Creek, SK, and Trudy (Roy) Spence of Esterhazy, SK; grandsons Trevor (Dana), Kane and Sydney Murphy of Maple Creek, SK and Cody (Jessica) Murphy of Lethbridge, AB. George is also survived by sisters Dorothy (Ray) Russell of Ladysmith, BC and Gladys Evans of Calgary, AB, sister-in-law Lola Nagel of Moose Jaw, SK and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife Ena, parents Herbert and Lucy Rose, brother Edgar (Grace), sisters Hilda and Florence, brothers-in-law Bernie Evans and Erhart Nagel and sister and brother-in-law Harold and Velma Titemore. George was born September 29, 1921 in Swift Current, SK and grew up on the "Home Place", attending Grampian and Success schools. In June, 1942 he joined the R.C.A.F. and became an aero-engine mechanic at Summerside, PEI. He was discharged in October 1945. On September 15, 1948 George married Ena Bennington and together raised their daughters. George worked with Ray Graham to obtain his journeyman mechanics papers. On January 1, 1959 he bought the garage and operated "Rose Motors" for thirty years. As a member of the Pennant Community, he was a town councillor, a charter member of the Lion's Club and a dedicated Legion member. He also curled and took his turn at the skating rink. He and Edgar farmed the homestead from 1966-1989. George and Ena both truly enjoyed watching their grandsons grow up and were very proud of them and their families. For George, being great grandpa to Ty, Kane and Sydney was always one of his greatest joys. In June, 1998 George was diagnosed with acute, auto-immune neuropathy and on December 1, 1998 his home became the Swift Current Care Center. During his almost eleven years at the Care Center, George continued to be as active as possible and was always up for a good talk about almost anything. Getting visitors was always welcomed. Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks to ALL of the staff throughout Dad's stay. Everyone treated Dad with sincere caring, tireless dedication and patience and indeed as one of the family. To all of you, Thanks. Also thanks to everyone that paid him visits and brought him treats - he enjoyed them all. A family graveside service and interment were held at the Pennant Community Cemetery on Saturday, September 5, 2009 with Elaine Little officiating. Culham/Bowers Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
