Ross Nelson Ervin
Ervin, Ross Nelson – 89, Truro passed away May 29, 2011 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Stewiacke on May 29, 1922, he was a son of the late William and Jennie (Hines) Ervin. Ross was a self employed trucker and started the milk route from Upper Stewiacke to Halifax. Later he was a dealer for New Holland Farm Equipment and David Brown Tractors. In the late 60’s he started driving a School Bus and retired in 1988. Ross was Manager of the Halifax County Exhibition. He sang in the Stewiacke United Church Choir and was a Cub Scout Leader and 4-H Leader for a number of years. He was also a member of the Oddfellows and the Hub Campers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Ross is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ethel (MacKay); son, Arthur (Linda), Pictou; daughters, Valerie (Bill Cusack), New Minas, Vanda (John Milligan), P.E.I.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step- grandson; two step-granddaughters; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son in infancy; brothers, John, Arthur, Donald; sister, Margaret; first wife, Verna MacDonald. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31st from 7-9 pm; memorial service on Wednesday, June 1st at 2 pm; both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Greg Porter officiating. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetic Association, the IWK Health Centre Foundation or a charity of choice.
