Gustav (Gus) of Regina, born October 9, 1937 in Assiniboia passed away peacefully August 29, 2009, a few weeks after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Gus was raised on the family farm near Coronach, SK. He attended Teacher’s College in Moose Jaw, received his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Saskatchewan, and his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Regina. Gus was a very well respected teacher and principal, with his career starting in Coronach followed by 30 years with the Regina Board of Education. After retirement he pursued a second career as a realtor. Gus organized and participated in many community and charity events. In past years he especially enjoyed coaching children’s sports. He was a member of Rotary and has served as President and Treasurer of the Canadian Club. Gus loved golf, curling, fishing, cribbage and traveling. Gus was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; son Perry (Beverly) and their daughter Shilo; and son Bryan (Cherillyn) and their sons Noah and Owen; sister Nylene Johnson and her children Dana, Lana, Todd, Cory and Kyle; as well as many additional extended family members and friends who were close to his heart. He was predeceased by his parents Gus and Hazel Brandiezs; and granddaughter Joline. A CELEBRATION OF GUS’ LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3 or to a charity of your choice.
