MOULAISON, Paul Delbert – age 80, Abram’s River, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born December 21, 1938 in Amirault’s Hill, he was a son of the late Delbert and Celeste (LeBlanc) Moulaison. Paul was a retired chef aboard the MV Bluenose, having worked his way up through the ranks over his 43 year career with Marine Atlantic. Following his retirement from the Bluenose, Paul decided to take a part-time job at Hickory Hut in Tusket as cook, where the pool crew would often gather to spin a few yarns and throw quips back and forth at each other for fun. But as much as Paul loved cooking, his true passion was music. Paul was a talented entertainer, having begun playing with the Good Times Band at the Wedgeport Legion on Saturday nights, and playing with many other bands over the years, most recently with Rough Edges. He was an inductee to the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame, and he looked forward to taking part in the annual Hank Snow Tribute and the Fox Mountain Country Music Festival. Paul also loved his vehicles, and no matter how often he traded them, you always knew it was him by his license plate, CHEF1. In his spare time he loved playing pool with “The Original Six” and rooting for the Boston Red Sox and the Montreal Canadiens. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joanne (Bourque) Moulaison, as well as by a son, Mark Moulaison. He is survived by his soul mate and best friend, Sandra Gavel, as well as by his children, Ramona Moulaison, Yarmouth; Craig (Lora) Moulaison, Lower Eel Brook and Denise (Chris) Surette, Sluice Point, along with his loving grandchildren, Megan, Heidi, Mason, Matthew, Donovan, Fallon, Alex, Sam, Réjean and Halle, as well as by a sister, Rosemarie Webber, Dartmouth. Visitation took place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. A funeral Mass was held at Saint Anne’s Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau on Saturday, February 9 at 10:30 a.m., Father Albéni d’Entremont officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. A reception then took place at Le Club Acadien, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
