Joseph Parago

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend, Joseph Bernard Parago, age 74, on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
He was born June 6, 1944, in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Joe worked for a time at the Isle Royal Hotel as a cook. Then entered the Canadian Armed Services, Queen’s Own Rifles 3PPLI, serving in Cypress and other areas overseas and Canada. After leaving the military, he worked for 18 years at the Buy Rite Wholesale and 15 years in the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Joe had a real liking for food and loved to eat and cook, but his greatest pleasures were the times he spent with his family, children and grandchildren. He loved music, dancing and daily walks with his good friend, Joe Waye.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Pat (Sampson) Parago; his children, Linda (Frank) Mombourquette, David (Darlene) Landry, Ken (Debbie) Landry and Theresa (Robert) Rose; brothers, Jimmy (Sharon) Parago, Boston, Patrick (Marie) Parago, Winnipeg, Dennis (Margie) Parago, Winnipeg, Gloria Hooper, Sydney and Mary (Bill) Keeping, Pictou; grandchildren, Katelyn, John, Kristen, Carter, Jamie, Victoria, Morgan, Cory, Sean and Andrea; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Bernard, Brigette, Nellie and Jessie, also, sisters, Josephine and Bernadette.
Visitation will take place Monday, February 11, 2019, from 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church, with Rev. Joseph MacKenzie officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery.
Many thanks to Dr. Ann Frances D’Intino, Dr. John Ritter and Dr. S. Abboud and all nursing staff in Palliative Care for their exceptional service and kindness given to Joe and our family.
