It is with great sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Carol Mercer peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Elizabeth (Graham) Wheeliker.
Carol was well-liked and a kind person that shared a passion for music with her husband. She will be greatly missed.
Carol is survived by her only child, Gordie (Jacqueline) and loving husband, Gordon; two sisters, Ann (Alex) Spencer, Braughton, Sheila (José) De Sousa, Rhode Island; brother, Jack (Patricia) Wheeliker, Glace Bay, and aunt, Annabel Hazelton, Rhode Island.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Elizabeth Bradey, two brothers, Graham (Audrey) Wheeliker and Edwin (Mae) Graham.
A celebration of life will take place 2 p.m. with a reception to follow Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the S.W Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
