We are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Arthur Bernard Young of Second Street, Glace Bay which occurred Saturday, August 28, 2009 at his late residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (MacMullin) Young. Art was schooled in Glace Bay, then received his tractor trailer operators course through George Brown College in Toronto; he operated a business of his own in Cambridge, ON; returning to Cape Breton, he was certified through the Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Attendant and drove ambulance here for many years. Art’s main hobby was drag racing and he was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs.
Art is survived by his wife Joan (nee Campbell); children, Terry (Elsa), Cambridge, ON, Cathy (Brent) Dawdy, Glen Morris, ON, Ricky and Wanda, both of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Erika, Andrea and ‘TJ’ Young, Jarrid and Rachel Dawdy, Kayla and Ricky Young, Alex and Andre Marshall, and Kayla Campbell; brother Russell, Hamilton, ON; mother-in-law Violet Campbell, Glace Bay; sister-in-law, Dot Young, Halifax; brother-in-law, Michael (Doreen) Campbell; nieces, nephews and close friends. He will also be sorely missed by his dog, Roxi.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Fabian ‘Bibi’; sister-in-law, Helen Young and father-in-law, Michael ‘Buster’ Campbell.
Visitation tomorrow (Wednesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, 2 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Rev. Leo Boone, officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Art’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
