It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Mildred MacDonald. Millie peacefully passed away at her home with her loving family at her side on Wednesday, June 1, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Pyke and was a member of St. Leo’s Church in Glace Bay.
Millie had a great sense of humour and she loved the summers, especially taking her children swimming. All children whether they were extended family or neighbourhood children called Millie “Ma”.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Francis, Gerry (Adeline), Ronnie (Heather), all of Glace Bay, Paul, Ontario, Robert (Rochelle), Halifax; daughters, Mary (Michael), Marg (Robert), both of Glace Bay; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren that she loved dearly; brother, Georgie, Ontario; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Sanford, son, Michael, two sisters and four brothers.
In honoring Millie’s wishes cremation has taken place. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4 in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
At this time, we, Millie’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Rebelo, Dr. Spencer and the New Waterford Homecare Workers for the excellent care and compassion that you all gave to our Mom.
