We regret to announce the passing of William Charles ‘Bill’ Prince, 85, on Monday, August 31, 2009, at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Eveleigh) Prince. He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines.
Bill worked as a coal miner for Devco for 44 years. He was known as a handyman around the neighbourhood. He was a member of the Army/Navy Club in Florence, and at one time had been Sergeant-at-Arms. In earlier years, Bill enjoyed attending get togethers with all his friends. He also played baseball with the Barrington St. Rovers.
He is survived by his three sons, William Prince Jr., Manitoba, Kenny (Jackie) Prince, North Sydney and David ‘Bo’ (Joan) Prince, Sydney Mines; his daughter, Beatrice, Glace Bay, with whom he resided; sisters, Mary Evans and Aggie Devoe; brother, Louis Prince and stepbrothers, Johnny Eveleigh and Albert Eveleigh; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife, Martha Beatrice; stepfather, Walter Eveleigh; sisters, Liza Pye and Annie Wier and brothers, Joseph Prince and Frank Prince.
There will be no visitation. The funeral service celebrating his life will take place on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. The burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Tobin Road, Sydney Mines.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
