PORTER, Mildred Jean – passed away March 19, 2019 at the Meadows Home for Special Care in Yarmouth at the age of 89 with her family by her side. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her parents; Elijah and Annie Hulbert; husband, Arthur; brothers, Arthur and Oscar; sisters, Ethel, Florence, Bessie, Alice and Evelyn; nieces, Cheryl, Joan and Susan. She is survived by her children, Steven, Nancy, and Andy (Donna) as well as her two Texan grandsons, Hayden and Holden of whom she was so proud; as well as several nieces and nephews. She loved to sing and attend musical events at the Meadows. A joyous occasion was this past Christmas when the Wesleyan Church choir came in to sing one evening. The people who knew her from when she was a member of the church came over to greet her including her nieces Norma and Jody. She also went to the Salvation Army Church on occasion with Steven and sang some solos. Like her mother and sisters, she was skilled at quilting and knitting, making homemade bread and scouse. On the onset of her illness she especially liked to go for rides to Rockville where she grew up. A special Thank You for the care and compassion she received at Roseway Manor in Shelburne and the Meadows in Yarmouth. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home South Room. A funeral service was held Monday March 25, 2019 at 1 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. David Hockley officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in Chebogue Cemetery.
