DeVenney, Donna Isabel (Haley), age 88, of Windsor Forks, Hants County, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 in the Halifax Infirmary Site, Q.E.II Health Sciences Centre. Born on November 22, 1930, in Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Laura (Rhodenizer) Haley. Donna enjoyed her work as a hairdresser doing cuts, perms, and backcombs for more than 60 years, both at her home salon and for 40 years at Dykeland Lodge, only retiring aged 85. She loved her gardens and spent countless hours perfecting and building her beautiful retreat. She made a home for all of her family and was most happy preparing large meals for everyone and could always be counted on to help friends, neighbours, and all those around her with biscuits, breads and pies. She had a wonderful life with Phil and nothing was better than Saturday dances and nights at the camp with Gordon and Marie, Shirley and Jed, and many others. Donna was a lady who never stopped moving and looked forward to her Saturday shopping excursions with Glenna and Wendy. Surviving are her children, Wendy (Gary) Shulba of Windsor Forks and their children, Paul (Christina) and Amanda; and great grandchildren, Everly, Clara and Grace; son, Steve (Stella) of Regina, and their granddaughters, Layla and Sarah; and son, Michael, Halifax; sisters, Jennie Keating, Eunice Dill, and Glenna Newcombe; sisters-in-law, Marie Haley, Emma DeVenney, Anna DeVenney, and Nancy (DeVenney) MacInnes; brother, Bob (Karen) Haley; brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) DeVenney and many, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip “Phil” Carlton DeVenney (2008); her mother-in-law, Nellie (Sweet) DeVenney; sisters, Madeleine (Haley) Taylor, Kathleen (Haley) Frank and Marguerite (Smith) Brothers; brothers, Gordon Haley, Stewart Haley, Fred Haley, Murray Haley and George Brothers; sisters-in-law, Marie Haley, Myrtle Haley, Eileen Brothers, Patricia (DeVenney) Maxner, and Doreen DeVenney; brothers-in-law, Walter Taylor, Ernest Frank, Arnold Brothers, Bill Keating, Joe Dill, Richard Newcombe, John DeVenney, James DeVenney, Robie Maxner, and Alan DeVenney. There was no visitation. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Windsor United Church, 613 King Street, Windsor. Rev. Karen Lynch and Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. Interment was in the Old Redden Burial Ground, DeVenney Farm, Windsor Forks. Special thanks to the wonderful care from Dr. Cathryn Smith. Donations were made to a charity of choice.
