Barbara ‘Elsie’ MacLeod

Barbara ‘Elsie’ MacLeod

Passed on: March 26th, 2019

Our wonderful mother, Mrs. Barbara ‘Elsie’ MacLeod (nee Campbell), of Estmere, Victoria Co., NS, departed peacefully on March 26, 2019, at 88, after a life well and fully lived. Born in Malagawatch, Elsie was the last of her family and beloved wife of the late Malcolm Gillis (Mack) MacLeod.
She is survived by sons, Alexander, Estmere, Earl (Rose), Kitchener; daughter, Louise, Toronto, and grandson, Austin, the light of her life.
She was a Little Narrows Presbyterian Church member, past President of the Ladies Aid and cherished sister, sister-in-law, cousin, aunt, grand-aunt, mentor, master craftsperson (especially as a knitter and crocheter), neighbour and/or loyal and true friend.
A born teacher (with perfect penmanship!), Elsie nurtured many young pupils during her career, from early days at River Denys to her last, at Whycocomagh Federal School, Waycobah First Nation. Her second role was as a popular historical interpreter at the Highland Village Museum.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Carlyle Chow (retired) and the entire staff of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Cremation has taken place; burial will be private. A public Celebration of Life will be held later in 2019, with advance notices in the community papers.
Her memory may be honoured through kind and compassionate acts toward others, or donations to the Malagawatch Cemetery Association or charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com. Condolences, reminiscences and photos also gratefully accepted via elsiesdaughter1@gmail.com.
Oidhche mhath (goodnight), sweet Mom!
