ARSENAULT, LAURIE - Laurie Joseph Arsenault, 88, of Auberge du Soleil, Dieppe, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre following a lengthy illness. Born July 10, 1922 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Arthur and Obéline (Bourgeois) Arsenault. Laurie was employed with Irving Oil prior to his retirement and was a veteran of W.W. 2 having served overseas. He enjoyed playing the accordion, the piano, and will be remembered for his sense of humour and his beautiful smile. For 38 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (née LeBlanc); the proud father of his eight children: Andrea (Bobby LeBlanc), Andrew (Joanne Wilson), Dianna Arsenault, Jeannine (Yvon Caissie), Peter (Christine Pitre), Annette (Brian Stone), Norman (Lynn Wortman), and Paul Arsenault; the loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one gr.-great-grandson. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. Besides his siblings, a great-grandson, Austin Stone, predeceased him.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday morning from 9:30 until departure (10:15). The funeral mass will be celebrated at Ste-Thérèse R.C. Church, Dieppe, on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service of remembrance at the funeral home Monday at 4 p.m. In memory of Laurie, a contribution to the Dr. Georges-L.
