Veta McKinley
McKINLEY, VETA - Veta Helen McKinley, 88, of Alma passed away suddenly at her home on June 3, 2011. Veta was born in Waterside, on November 19, 1922 the daughter of the late Hartford and Carrie (Stewart) Rossiter. She was a member of the St. Stephen's United Church. She worked as a cook for many years at various businesses throughout the Albert County area. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and bird watching. She also spent many hours watching the fishing boats from her window. Even when Veta couldn't get out much she kept up to date on the activities that was happening in the village. Most of all she loved spending time with her large family. She loved to laugh and was known for her sense of humour. She was very independent and was fortunate to stay in her own home. She will be remembered for her big smile and her great personality. In earlier years, she was actively involved in community service for which she received the Merit Award from the Province of NB in the year 2000. She was one of the pillars of the Alma area, and will be greatly missed. She will be deeply missed by her four daughters, Rhoda Crandall of Sussex, Paula Akerley (Gerald) of Alma, Louise Flaglor (Wayne) of Sussex and Phyllis Thorne- Calvert (Eric) of Alma; three sons, Stuart (Ginny) of Black's Harbour, Austin (Rhonda) of West River and Allan (Heather) of Riverview; her 19 precious grandchildren and 20 treasured great grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Butland of Fredericton and Clara Manning of Riverside-Albert. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Fred; son-in-law, Dean Thorne; brothers, Frank, Charles, Ronald, Osman, John and Edward; sisters, Eva, Viola, Ruth, Dora, Carrie, Annie and Zetta.
She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral Service will be held at the St. Stephen's United Church on Monday, June 6th, 2011 at 4:00 pm with Rev. Alex Mosher officiating. Interment will be in the Alma United Cemetery. Following the service the family will be meeting at the Alma Activity Center for refreshments and further sharing of memories. Donations to the St. Stephen's United Church or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
